Rodent Police
"If you build it (barn), they will come (cats)" We used to have a couple of fat house cats but somehow, one by one, several felines have taken up residence here. Many were unwanted and either dumped on the side of the road or dropped off at our veterinarian's office for their "final trip". While we love each and every one of them, we cannot help but feel saddened that the overpopulation problem continues to swell out of control. Barns only need so many cats! We are very proud that each and every one of our cats is spayed or neutered and encourage you to do the same!!! Here they are...the rodent police..........
"Nuisance" Our oldest barn kitty, sweet Nuisance was euthanized Spring 2006 after battling mammary tumors. She is now catching mice over the Rainbow Bridge. NOTE: Had Nuisance been spayed as a young cat, she would not have developed mammary tumors! Please spay and neuter your pets!
"Tooncis" AKA "Halter Cat" Ok, so she's a little fat, a little cross eyed, and really doesn't have a neck...but isn't she cute?!? And no, the photo is not adjusted wrong..she just looks like that! Her head is a bit small for her body!
"Sport Spot" Sport is easily one of the barn favorites. He also manages to sneak in regularly to spend the night in bed with one of the kids! While outside, Sport is the official rodent patrol for the road frontage and keeps this stretch vermin free!
"Sneaky" Ever elusive, Sneaks was dropped off on a winter night years ago. Though we cannot pet her, she is content to sit and observe from a distance and enjoy the fine dining!
"Jackie Chan" When Tooncis was dropped off here, she was pregnant. Jack is one of her kittens. He is very adept at catching frogs and mice. Very loving, he will climb on anyone's shoulder - no invitation required!
"Mrs. Hooper" Hooper was dumped near a friend's hunting camp. We have decided her old family probably couldn't put up with her not so nice personality! Despite her grouchiness, we love her and she does have her moments when she likes us!
"Chip" Well, since Emily had a new kitten (Oliver), Amber of course needed one too! By sheer coincidence, our neighbor, Macee Matott, happened upon a litter of kittens carelessly dumped between our houses on one of the hottest days that summer. Homes were found for all but Chip who Amber immediately claimed. "Thank you Macee for saving Chip. You will always be his Fairy Godmother"
"Oliver" Look closely in Emily's lap and you will find her precious baby! Oliver is completely deaf and we found him while picking up hay at a local farm. Since it was Em's birthday and a deaf kitten probably won't live long on a dairy farm ............ Life is very good now for this very spoiled and incredibly fat cat! Here he is below enjoying a romp in the grass (on his leash of course)
Rafiki - frequently referred to as the Best Cat In The World, has been a member of our family since 1995. Nothing at this point could cause Fiki to bat an eye - he is quite accustomed to sharing his space with various creatures and as long as it doesn't interfere with his meals, no worries!
"Stripey Cat" Stripey was hit by a car and brought in by the very distraught driver. Nobody claimed him so home with Bridget he came! He's an odd little cat who is a little off balance from his head injury but very affectionate and very loved by all!
Pedro Pedro was dropped off in the winter of 2007. He is a very loving little cat who regularly invites himself in to "help" Bridget on the computer. Pedro's best friend is Bill, pictured to the right.
Bill Yes, he is almost identical to our Jackie Chan but not related! Bill arrived here right about the same time as Pedro and they are best buddies. He regularly auditions for the role of house cat and thinks he looks quite fetching stretched out on the couch!
Preston AKA "The Cuteness" Preston is not a barn cat but is a permanent fixture in Bridget's lap and on the bed. He does no wrong and is a perfect example of Bridget's belief that orange male cats are far superior to all! (not that we are at all biased!)
